Staying in a tree house in Katrain, Himachal Pradesh

Over the years Manali has become too commercial with over-development, and honestly, parts of Manali seem as polluted, dusty and congested as certain parts of Mumbai. While on a trip to Kulu Manali, we desperately looked for a quaint escape.

We found Katrain. A small village of apple orchards. And we found our stay in one. On a tree. It’s a wonderful home stay with a very warm family, and you have your own little pad on a tree with an attached toilet/bath. The food, delicious and fresh, is served in the family’s dining room.

A traditional way of life can still be experienced in Katrain, though the villages are keen to break their years old homes t get new concrete ones. It’s almost like a status symbol to have a new concrete house.

  1. Lovely post, and I agree that a number of hill stations are becoming too commercial to be really enjoyed, but they all seen to have nearby places that still haven’t lost their charm.

  2. True. Plus if these ‘resort’ owners don’t get it so enough, they will probably destroy every holiday spot in this country.
